The C80 display unit is a totally
new concept in Digital Readout technology. In its price range, the C80
offers the most functional,
most versatile display in the market today.
Its value added design
has allowed Newall to add productivity enhancing
features without
adding cost. This means the user can get high-end DRO
features
for
the same price as a basic DRO.
The C80 is available in
both 2- and 3-axis configurations. The display is supplied with all of
the features commonly found on DRO’s such as Inch/Metric, Absolute/Incremental,
Zero Reset, Axis Preset, Center Find and much more. In addition, Newall
has packed the C80 with advanced functionality. Features such as Bolt
Hole Calculator, Arc Contouring, Programmable Memory, Job Numbers, Polar
Coordinates, Line Hole Calculator, Tool Offsets, Taper Calculation, Data
Hold, Data Recall and Feed Rate display are all standard on the C80.
The
C80 is designed in a way that prevents it from being overwhelming
to the operator. In fact, the most truly unique aspect of the C80 is
that the operator can customize it. As the machine function changes,
so too can the C80. Its flexibility allows it to be used as a Milling
specific display one day and then be used as a Lathe specific display
the next day. At any time, the operator simply activates the features
that apply to the current job.
To further increase the
capabilities of the machine, the C80 also provides Segmented Error Compensation
(SEC). It is well known that machine tools very rarely show wear at a
consistent rate over the length of travel of an axis. Therefore, applying
the old method of a constant linear error correction factor helps, but
it cannot account for large variances. SEC provides a mechanism that
applies an error compensation factor in segments of travel. The operator
can define the length of the segment. The more segments that are defined
and compensated, the more accurate will be the overall positioning accuracy.
The C80 provides for up to 99 segments to be defined on any length of
travel.
Another
innovative feature of the C80 is its upgradability. The unit can be connected
to a personal computer for the purpose of upgrading the firmware or adding
new features. This means that the C80 can continue to be a productivity
enhancer well into the future without having to invest in a completely
new system. The firmware and any new features will be made available
for download on Newall’s Internet site.
The C80
is designed to be used in conjunction with Newall’s Spherosyn™ and
Microsyn™ Linear Encoders. With an ingress protection
rating of IP67 and
industry standard accuracies of ±0.0004” and ±0.0002”,
Newall’s Linear Encoders are well known to provide the best solution
for any machine
application.
