Complete New Series of Digital Readouts

Digital readout cabinetsGrouped in three classes, these new DROs offer Standard Features such as absolute/incremental operation, inch/metric conversion, linear error compensation, segmented error compensation, switchable resolutions, radius/diameter readings, zero reset/data preset, self diagnostics, center find and home reference are all Standard Features included with each of the new DRO units.

The new DRO family begins with the basic A50, designed for applications that have relatively simple feedback requirements. Measuring a mere 2.8” x 5.6” x 2.8”, the A50 is packed with all of the Standard Features mentioned above. Its compact footprint makes it ideal for use on saws, shears, presses, measuring tables and many other special applications that require just one axis of measurement. This DRO includes a wipe-clean front panel and can be mounted as a stand-alone unit or panel mounted. The mid-range C class comes next.

Comprised of the C70 and C80 models, both units measure 10.4” x 7” x 2”, are housed in a rugged die-cast chassis with wipe-clean front panel, and are available in either two or three axis configurations. The C70 offers a standard DRO display that is well suited for general machining applications such as grinding, and includes all of the Standard Features listed above plus data recall, data hold, memory back-up, encoder failure alert and sleep mode.

The C80 is truly a remarkable readout that offers unprecedented value. In its price range, the C80 is provided with more productivity enhancing features than any other display in the market today, and can easily be configured by the operator for either mill (1) or lathe (2) specific operation. Features include all those of the C70 as well as feed rate display1/2, bolt hole circle1, arc contouring1, programmable memory1/2, polar coordinates1, line hole calculator1, tool offsets2, taper calculations2 and axis vectoring/summing2. Plus, the C80 is designed so that the firmware can be upgraded, or new functions added, via downloads from Newall’s Internet site, ensuring that the C80 will remain at the cutting edge of performance well into the future. Best of all the C80 is the same price as Newall’s Topaz™ DRO.

The family is rounded out with the E class, which carries on Newall’s fundamental design concept of versatility. These units measure 6.7” x 11.6” x 1.2”, are housed in a rugged die-cast chassis with wipe-clean front panels, and are available in either two or three axis configurations. Available as either the E70-M for milling functions, or the E70-L for lathe functions, both units take advantage of a unique design feature… the DRO and the supporting electronics have been separated. The encoders, along with the incoming power supply, are connected to the Digital Sending Unit (DSU). A standard 11.5” cable is then connected from the DSU to the back of the E70-M or E70-L display. The DSU can be mounted anywhere on the machine, thus minimizing cable routing.

The E70-M includes all the Standard Features, plus data recall, data hold, memory back-up, encoder failure alert, sleep mode and the following mill specific features: bolt hole circle, arc contouring, programmable memory, line hole and polar coordinates. The E70-L offers all the Standard Features, plus data recall, data hold, memory back-up, encoder failure alert, sleep mode and the following lathe specific features: programmable memory, tool offsets, taper calculations and axis vectoring/summing (three axis). In addition, the E70-L can be ordered with the Constant Surface Speed (CSS) option for lathes that have an AC inverter installed.

These DROs are offered with the same warranty as Newall’s current products, and can be used in conjunction with their Spherosyn™ and Microsyn™ linear encoders. With an ingress protection rating of IP67 (fully submersible) and industry standard accuracies of ±0.0004” and ±0.0002”, Newall’s linear encoders are well known to provide a great solution for any machine application. Additional Encoder benefits: completely sealed; withstands dust, dirt, oil and other environmental conditions; no mechanical wear characteristics; no more broken or scratched glass; requires no cleaning or maintenance; vibration and shock resistant; stainless steel armored cables.
